These Star Student Project strings have been found to be vulnerable to shading effects, in which the generated power of the string is severely limited by modules that are shaded, e.g., by clouds or shadows caused by nearby objects. Due to the series connection, each module has to carry equal current, which may force the operating point of some modules away from the MPP. To overcome this, Star Student Project DMPPT systems have been proposed, in which each PV module has a dedicated interfacing converter.
